The KTO underground mining project required specialized consultation and strategic direction concerning the comprehensive management of water-related challenges associated with multiple underground aquifers, anticipated to be encountered in the proposed deep-level expansion of the mine. An evaluation of the existing drainage, pumping, and reticulation systems was also undertaken to identify and advise on enhancements to improve efficiency, aligning them with the latest industry standards best practices.

Mineright was tasked with a dewatering target of 450 l/s of 80 degree Celsius (176 degree Fahrenheit) water from a narrow vein hydrothermal deposit of high grade gold.
Mineright designed and managed construction of the underground dewatering project to safely de-water below production levels to extend mine life. This included consolidating and improving current capital pump station infrastructure to maximize ex-mine water and to add contingency to avoid flood events. Specific design of deep bore installations and reticulation pathways through return air ways to better manage heat transfer and workforce exposure to hot water. Simplify and automate the system to better manage power outages and pump failures.
Redesign lower decline to manage hot water flows and mining fronts with active dewatering cuddies and satelite pumping systems.

Decline development intersected a diamond drill hole connected to the open pit full of water which inundated the decline for 8 weeks. Mineright audited and trouble shooted the pumping and water management system which successfully allowed for a hasty reestablishment of the decline within 7 days.
Formulate and design the Syama Underground Water management plan for early stages of a large sub level cave mine, with open pit catch sumps and underground storage facilities with precipitation averaging 1100mm per year.

Mineright consulted on mine design for water management, pressure grouting and pump design for expected high water inflow into the underground mine.
Mineright designed the underground water management and drainage plan to operationally control high water inflows.
Mineright designed the capital pump station and storage system for 450 l/s peak inflows.
Mineright supplied tapered plugs and Jumbo packers to be used by the jumbo in and emergency when historic diamond drill holes were intersected.
Mineright trained Jumbo operators on installation of Mineright Packers in high pressure high water volume diamond drill hole intersections in development faces as well as train personnel on grouting through packers with high pressure grout pump to fill hole and de-risk development.

Consult on dewatering and water management, including safety requirements for 140 degree Celsius water in a narrow vein hydrothermal gold mine.
